Easily Redirect Windows 11 Widgets from Edge to Chrome

Windows 11 is here and they have made an appearance with some great new features. And one of those features is the new widgets tab. Widget is a great feature that has been added and through this, you can get all sorts of information. For instance, stock prices, weather information, emails, reminders, and also suggested news. Firstly, it seemed like we were looking at the Google Discover app. But when you click on any of these articles or news, you will be carried to Microsoft Edge. Even after you change your default browser then also you will be taken to Microsoft Edge. We have a quick way to fix this issue that can redirect you to Google Chrome or your default browser easily.

What are Windows 11 Widgets

Do you remember the tiles in Windows 10? It’s not so long to forget them. These widgets are a replacement for those tiles and we think it is for the good of all of us that tiles are gone. Widgets provide all types of different information like recommendations, latest news, Microsoft apps, weather reports on the widget bar. But still, we don’t know whether third-party apps can also make widgets for Windows 11. There are speculations that it would be open to the world.

We will get more information on this when Windows 11 launches for the general public in late-2021.

How to redirect Windows 11 Widgets

In order to redirect the edge queries to your default browser, you need to install a small third-party extension called Edge Deflector. We will tell you about the Edge Deflector- it is an open-source tool that is between Widget Menu and Microsoft Edge. So, whenever you click on a Widget, Edge Deflector picks up the link and then redirects it to your default browser. Here is how you can do it easily, follow the steps given below.

  1. Firstly, download and install Edge Deflector.
  2. Then, set it up to manage the Widgets menu URL redirection. You just have to go to the Default apps menu.
  3. Now scroll towards the bottom and then click on Choose default apps by protocol option.
  4. Lastly, find the MICROSOFT-EDGE key and click on the Microsoft Edge icon beside it. Then, select the Edge Deflector from the drop-down menu.

Note: After everything is done, whenever you click on the new widgets tab, the widget information will open in your default browser instead of the default Microsoft edge. In our case, it was Google Chrome.

Things that cannot be changed

This is how you can customize your browser for the Widget menu. But it is also important to know about the things that can not be customized. These are some things that we got from MSN.com and as we know for now you cannot switch to a third-party app like Google for recommendations.

Also, there is no option where you cannot redirect the search queries from MSN.com to Google. Because there are no such options available, you have to work with MSN suggestions on Widget’s tab until we find a new way around for you.

Conclusions

We loved this new feature of the Windows 11 widgets tab, but still, it is mostly one-dimensional, and there is nothing new. The future of these widgets relies mostly on third-party apps. We hope to see more widgets like project management, CRM platforms, favorite note-taking apps, and third-party weather widgets added in the future. Until then, we have to work with what we have. Hope you find this information useful.
